When she regained consciousness in the middle of the night, she felt a chilling sensation, as if there was cold water in her nose.Left to die in the mountains, she miraculously made her way to her grandfather's house, where she found refuge and assistance.Įventually, she was taken to a secret shelter and later received medical treatment.Efforts were made to transport her to the United States, where she underwent a series of surgeries.ĭuring the procedures, temporary prosthetics were provided while her nose and ears were reconstructed using tissue from other parts of her body.Īisha continues to grapple with post-traumatic stress disorder and a range of mental health issues stemming from the severe mistreatment she endured. Her husband subjected her to a horrifying act of punishment in the form of cutting off her nose and ears.Aisha herself recalls fainting during the ordeal. She endured physical and mental abuse on a daily basis, trapped in a distressing situation.Įventually, she reached a breaking point and attempted to escape, but she was caught and imprisoned for five months.Upon her release, instead of finding justice, the judge ordered her to return to her husband.ĭetermined to break free from the cycle of abuse, she made another escape attempt but was recaptured. This story caused me more than disgust, not only did they make her get married at the age of 12, but her husband cut off her nose and ears as punishment for trying to flee from the constant abuse he put her through. Young Aisha Mohamadzai, who was barely twelve years old, was forcibly married to a Taliban fighter as a means to settle a debt, treating her as if she were a mere object.
